Your Highline High School Pirates varsity football team sent the Steilacoom Sentinels to Davy Jones’ Locker at Friday night’s (Nov. 3, 2023) first-round WIAA state playoff game by a score of 42-16.

The game was played at Highline Memorial Stadium, and Highline was the #3 seed while Steilacoom was #14.

The Sentinels came into the playoff matchup with an overall 5-4 record vs the Pirates 8-1 in the KingCo 2A League.

Some game highlights:

1st quarter:

  • Steilacoom got out to an early lead 6-0 in the 1st quarter.
  • A 50-yard Pirate pass for a TD got the lead back for Highline, 7-6.

2nd quarter:

  • Steilacoom kicked a field goal to take a 9-7 lead.
  • Highline had a 2-yard rushing TD to make it 13-9.
  • A 31-yard pass completed for a TD made it Highline 21, Steilacoom 9 at halftime.

3rd quarter:

  • 29-yard pass TD makes it Pirates 27, Sentinels 9.
  • Steilacoom got a 4-yard rushing TD to tighten the score back to Highline 28, Sentinels 16.
  • Highline had an 8-yard Rushing TD to make it 35-16.

4th quarter:

  • Highline had a 51-yard pass TD to clinch the game at 42-16.

The Pirates advance to the next round of state WIAA playoffs next weekend, with the opponent/date TBD.
