The Highline Schools Foundation has opened its 2026 scholarship application, allowing Highline Public Schools seniors to apply for more than 30 scholarships through a single form, including our own Jack Mayne Journalism Scholarship.

The foundation said awards this year can total up to $30,000, with students able to apply for multiple scholarships through a single application.

The scholarships are made possible through contributions from community donors, according to the foundation.

Applications are open now and must be submitted by Feb. 28.

The foundation encouraged eligible students to begin the application process as soon as possible and to review full eligibility requirements and scholarship details online.

The scholarships are available to Highline Public Schools seniors across the district, which serves students in Burien, SeaTac, Des Moines, White Center and parts of surrounding south King County communities.

Jack Mayne Journalism Scholarship

One such award we support is the Jack Mayne Journalism Scholarship (help support it by making a tax deductible donation online here), which was created in memory of veteran local journalist Jack Mayne. Mayne worked as our Senior Writer from 2012 up until his passing at age 86 in December, 2021, and enjoyed mentoring young journalists. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from any Highline Public Schools high school interested in pursuing an education in journalism at any accredited college, university, or trade school. The award is $1,000 for the first year of school.

Additional information and application materials are available through the foundation’s website:
