For local Highline area public, private and homeschooling families, the intersection of specialized tutoring and structured curriculum guidance just became a single stop.
Highline Tutoring and Testing Center (HTTC), a staple of the Burien community for more than 40 years, is now amplifying its impact by sharing its downtown location with Family Academy, a prominent regional homeschooling organization, and Washington state approved private school, fully accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (an international accreditation) for PreK-12 education.
This new co-location solves many of the hurdles facing modern home and traditional schooling parents: navigating options and resources. By housing a state-approved homeschooling support, extension program supervision and an experienced tutoring and diagnostic clinic under one roof, the collaboration creates a powerful academic destination. Homeschoolers can earn accreditation on their students’ work while still homeschooling while enrolled in the extension program.
“When families choose to homeschool, they often find themselves driving around to patch together curriculum advising, standardized testing, and specialized subject tutoring,” said Wendy Wenger, owner and educational supervisor of Highline Tutoring and Testing Center. “Bringing Family Academy directly into our space changes the game. It allows us to put the student first, offering individualized support for even more students.”
Under the combined framework, families who choose to homeschool can meet with Family Academy teacher consultants to map out official high school credit courses, navigate state compliance laws, and build personalized learning plans. This includes updated career pathways models and updated mathematics options. While enrolled in the extension program homeschoolers can earn accreditation on their students’ work while still homeschooling. If a student hits a roadblock in a challenging subject like advanced mathematics or laboratory sciences, they can immediately transition to an on-site HTTC tutor without changing locations or shifting instructional philosophies.
Those families who are enrolled in traditional public or private schools can find the additional support they may need to help their student succeed through individualized tutoring or testing to assess possible learning differences, to be addressed, such as dyslexia or dysgraphia.
The shared space at 245 SW 152nd Street (map below) also functions as an official host site for mandatory annual testing and college exam proctoring for homeschooling programs.
This shared resource model provides an important toolbox for families managing diverse learning needs. HTTC’s decades of experience in special education and English Language Learning (ELL) complements Family Academy’s customizable extension programs, ensuring that students of all learning profiles receive equitable attention. Family Academy’s CEO, Tammie Elliott is the published author of nine books, including full curriculum for homeschooling in Washington State and World History. Perhaps most intriguing, are her varied journals and planners helping parents clear the hurdles of record keeping to satisfy graduation requirements. Special Education is of personal interest to Elliott, as she endeavors to support a neurodivergent family member.
HTTC and Family Academy offer affordable alternatives to fit a variety of family budgets. Numerous packages and payment plans are available- just ask for details. They are enrolling now for summer sessions, so give them a call or drop an email today to learn how they can help you support your student’s precious education. Whether you need homeschooling extension programs or individual tutoring supports, Family Academy & HTTC are a local solution to make academic success possible.
