A Heat Advisory was issued from 11 a.m. Monday, June 22 through 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 for much of the central Puget Sound region, including Burien and portions of south King County, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said daytime high temperatures are expected to range from 85 to 95 degrees, with overnight lows between 55 and 65 degrees.
Prognosticators said temperatures will peak Tuesday in the upper 80s to low 90s before remaining in the upper 80s on Wednesday. But we’ll all be cooled down by some rain, expected to arrive Thursday night, June 25 and last into next weekend.
The weather service said the heat will significantly increase the risk of heat related illnesses for people sensitive to high temperatures, particularly those without effective cooling or adequate hydration.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned rooms, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. The National Weather Service also reminded parents and caregivers that young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.
People who work or spend time outdoors are encouraged to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours when possible, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and people should call 911 if someone shows signs of severe heat illness.
The National Weather Service said people seeking sheltering information or other human services can call 211 during business hours or visit wa211.org at any time.
