This week the King County Council unanimously approved a plan for a county-wide Tourism Recovery Campaign, and have allocated $8 million of CARES funding to support this initiative.

In partnership with Visit Seattle, a campaign will be launched in Q4, with the goal of driving more business and foot traffic throughout Seattle Southside and King County, ultimately generating more overnight visitors to the region.

King County Councilmember Kohl-Welles, Councilmember Dembowski, and Councilmember Upthegrove, along with Executive Dow Constantine have been championing this initiative since March.

“We are grateful for their understanding of the power of travel and tourism to this region and the benefits it provides to our community and residents,” Seattle Southside RTA CEO Katherine Kertzman said.

The campaign will launch in early October and is being created in partnership with Visit Seattle and their agency, Wunderman Thompson. Part of the campaign will be a toolkit so that partners and businesses can help amplify the messages – the toolkit will include social media assets, copy for websites and eblasts. The core of the campaign will be a robust advertising plan.

More information will be released in the coming weeks.

“After such a difficult year, this funding gives us hope and optimism for the future of our industry and the local economy,” Kertzman added. “Through this campaign, we are confident that we will be able to drive more visitors to King County and we are excited to get started!”
