Lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516, SR 509 and local roads in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac and Kent continue this week through the morning of Saturday, May 17.
The lane closures on I-5 will allow crews to remove concrete barriers. The lane closures on SR 516 and SR 509 will allow crews to perform electrical work. A temporary closure of South 194th Street in SeaTac will allow crews to replace a culvert.
This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.
I-5 lane closure information
Monday, May 12 through the morning of Tuesday, May 13:
- 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 will close overnight between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).
- 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will close overnight between South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151) and SR 516 (Exit 149).
Tuesday, May 13 through the morning of Wednesday, May 14:
- 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 will close overnight between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).
Wednesday, May 14 through the morning of Friday, May 16:
- 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly between South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151) and SR 516 (Exit 149).
I-5 ramp closure information
Monday, May 12 through the morning of Friday, May 16:
- 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 516 lane closure information
Monday, May 12 through the morning of Wednesday, May 14:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound SR 516 will close nightly between SR 99 and Military Road South.
SR 516 ramp closure information
Wednesday, May 14 through the morning of Friday, May 16
- 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The SR 516 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 lane closure information
Monday, May 12 through the morning of Tuesday, May 13:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of southbound SR 509 will close overnight between Des Moines Memorial Drive South and South 160th Street.
SR 509 ramp closure information
Monday, May 12 through the morning of Tuesday, May 13:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close overnight.
Friday, May 16 through the morning of Saturday, May 17:
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 509 will close overnight.
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The southbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close overnight.
During the SR 509 ramp closures, a signed detour will be in place.
Local road closure information
Thursday, May 15:
- 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. – South 194th Street will close between Des Moines Memorial Drive South and 11th Place South. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 Completion Project information
The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Avenue South is scheduled to open in summer 2025 along with the new Veterans Drive tunnel at the SR 516 interchange. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.
Puget Sound Gateway Program overview
The SR 509 Completion Project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which also includes the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County. Together, the two completion projects finish critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.
