Lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 509 and SR 516 in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac and Kent continue Monday, June 9, through the morning of Friday, June 13, 2025.
The lane and ramp closures will allow crews to perform paving and drainage work.
This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.
I-5 lane closure information
Tuesday, June 10 through the morning of Wednesday, June 11:
- 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close overnight between South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151) and SR 516 (Exit 149).
I-5 ramp closure information
Thursday, June 12 through the morning of Friday, June 13:
- 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 516 lane closure information
Monday, June 9 through the morning of Friday, June 13:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound SR 516 will close nightly between SR 99 and Military Road South. A signed detour will be in place
Monday, June 9 through the morning of Friday, June 13:
- 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Westbound SR 516 will fully close nightly between Military Road Southand SR 99. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 lane closure information
Monday, June 9 through the morning of Wednesday, June 11:
- 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of northbound SR 509 will close nightly between South 188th and South 160th Streets. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 516 ramp closure information
Wednesday, June 11 through the morning of Thursday, June 12:
- 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – The SR 516 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

SR 509 ramp closure information
Monday, June 9 through the morning of Wednesday, June 11:
- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramps to northbound and southbound SR 509 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.

- 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The northbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 Completion Project information
The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Avenue South is scheduled to open in summer 2025 along with the new Veterans Drive tunnel at the SR 516 interchange. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.
Puget Sound Gateway Program overview
The SR 509 Completion Project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which also includes the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County. Together, the two completion projects finish critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.
