The victim of a fatal crash that happened on Saturday, May 13, 2023 on SR 509 at SR 99 has been identified as Steven P. Sandoz, 67, of Burien, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) announced.

Sandoz was the driver of a vehicle that lost control and crossed over and struck two other vehicles.

Troopers say that two other people were involved but not injured in the crash, which happened south of the First Ave Bridge on Saturday, May 13 at 12:36 p.m.

WSP says the fatal collision happened when Vehicle #1 (driven by Sandoz) was southbound on SR 509 in lane #1 just north of SR 99, when it lost control, crossed the gore point, and struck Vehicles #2 and #3, which were southbound on SR 99.

All vehicles came to rest blocking the ramp to SR 99.

The roadway was closed for 2 hours and 21 minutes.
