The Mary’s Place family shelter located at SW 130th Street and Ambaum Blvd. SW in Burien has temporarily closed as the organization begins construction on a new facility that will combine a family shelter with affordable housing.

The redevelopment, in partnership with Mercy Housing Northwest, is expected to take two years, the organization announced.

The new co-located campus is scheduled to open in mid-2027.

“During construction, Mary’s Place will continue to serve families from Burien at our other shelter locations in Seattle and Bellevue, and through our mobile outreach and prevention programs,” the organization announced.

The new facility will mark a significant step forward in addressing family homelessness in South King County by providing integrated shelter services alongside long-term affordable housing on the same site.

The new development aims to reimagine how communities address family homelessness by creating a thoughtfully integrated campus that blends housing and shelter services. Designed with guidance from individuals who have experienced homelessness, the project prioritizes equity, long-term stability, and family-centered planning. With coordinated services and larger unit sizes to meet the needs of families, the campus will serve as a model for sustainable, inclusive support systems that benefit both residents and the wider community.

How to Help

In the meantime, community members can support the organization by dropping off in-kind donations at the Mary’s Place donation center in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood or at their downtown Seattle family shelter.
