In an effort to streamline the licensing process and make it easier for businesses to apply or renew business licenses, the City of Burien announced that – working with the Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service (BLS) – will launch a new license service on May 21, 2020.
The city is working with the state’s BLS, which will begin to process its business licenses and renewals.
In order to have time to successfully launch the business licensing system, the city says that no new business licenses will be processed between May 8–20. However, the city will continue to process business licenses for emergency construction projects during the temporary transition period.
“A new business licensing system will make it easier to apply or renew your business license by providing a one-stop shop for both Burien and state business licenses. The new system will allow you to apply or renew online, saving you time and bookkeeping costs,” the city said in a statement.
EARLY JUNE NOTIFICATION
Businesses do not need to take any action now, but in early June, the Business Licensing Service will send out license renewal letters with instructions on how to renew your City of Burien business license.
LICENSE FEES
For renewals, the city says businesses will still pay the same license fee, which will continue to be based on part-time and full-time employee counts. Currently, the annual fee is $75 for 0–39 employees and $150 for 40 or more employees.
