Northwest Symphony Orchestra’s Season Final concert will be on Saturday, April 26 at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien.
The concert will begin with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, which was written over a 3-day period in 1954 in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution. The performance will also feature soprano Alexandra Picard, performing a selection of arias by Brahms, Mahler, Puccini, and Huntley Beyer, and the orchestra will cap off the 2013- 2014 season with Symphony No. 3 by Johannes Brahms.
â€We conclude our season with Soprano soloist Alexandra Picard, an NWSO audience favorite, singing some famous arias. Some of these are on a CD that the NWSO recently recorded with Alexandra and this concert is a release party of that CD- Alexandra will sign copies at intermission and after the concert. We also open with Shostakovich’s exciting Festive Overture, and conclude the concert with the most romantic of Brahms Symphonies- his Symphony #3.â€Alexandra Picard was born in New York City, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, and received her Masters in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory. She is a returning member of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Roles under preparation include Violetta in La Traviata; Manon in Manon; Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor and Gerhilde in Die Walküre, both of which she will debut this season. She has sung Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflote for Rogue Opera in Oregon, for the New Opera Festival in Rome, Italy, for the Willamette Concert Opera in Oregon, and for Spokane Opera in Washington. She has performed Musetta in La BoheÌ€me for Skagit Opera in Washington, and for the Russian Opera Centre in San Francisco; Pamina in Die Zauberflote in Rome, Italy, and in Seattle, Washington; Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann for Bellevue Opera in Washington, and Arminda in La Finta Giardiniera in Oakland, California.
