A suspected DUI crash on SR 509 late Saturday night, Feb. 22, 2025 left one woman dead and another person injured, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The collision occurred at 11:25 p.m. Saturday night, just north of S. 128th Street (map below), when one vehicle rear-ended another at high speed, causing it to veer off the road and hit a tree.

A 53-year-old woman from Seattle lost her life in the crash, succumbing to her injuries at Harborview Medical Center after the vehicle she was in was struck and sent into a tree.

The driver of her vehicle, a 58-year-old Seattle man, was unharmed, as was an 18-year-old female passenger.

Meanwhile, the suspected impaired driver, a 26-year-old Seattle man, was hospitalized with injuries and now faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI, and eluding police. Two 16-year-old passengers in his vehicle were not injured.

According to the WSP report, drugs or alcohol were involved, and the suspected DUI driver is under investigation for multiple charges.

The collision resulted in both vehicles being totaled.
