Here is an update of the Pirate sports this month. I can’t wait for Highline Bears season, it starts the day after I turn 12!
TRACK
Pirate Track ended with a fun meet against Evergreen and Tyee on May 6. There were many Pirates trying different events at this meet, which made it exciting to watch. I even caught Luana from Evergreen during her PR (personal record) throw in discus.
The Pirates had new javelins to use after parents and teachers worked together to buy some for the team. The Pirates had been practicing with broken ones for most of the season and had to borrow javelins from other teams at meets.

SOCCER
Pirate Boys Soccer lost the last game of the season 0-1 to Lindbergh on May 3. It was an exciting game with lots of attempts on goal and tough play. The game came down to a last kick, which was almost a direct kick in! The Pirates ended the season 3 wins – 8 loses – 3 ties, which meant they missed going to the playoffs. Evergreen went instead, which was still good. Sadly, Evergreen lost their first playoff game on May 12, 2016, against Franklin Pierce.

BASEBALL
Pirate Baseball beat Lindbergh 6-0 on May 2. They ended their season 10-4 and made it to the playoffs. There, the Pirates lost to Sammamish, beat White River and Olympic and then lost 2-1 to Port Angeles on Saturday May 14. While they did not officially place in District, they were one of the top eight teams. Nice!

SOFTBALL
Pirate Softball also made the playoffs. They also ended their season with a 10-4 record. I had never shot softball so I went to their game on Thursday, May 12 to try. The umpires never showed up. I learned there is an umpire shortage in our area, so the last game of the season had to be cancelled. It was so nice out, the Lady Pirates held practice in uniform so I could get them in action. It was fun to take shots on the field while they ‘played’ around me! They play either Forest Ridge/Bear Creek on Friday, May 20, 2016. Good luck Ladies!
