UPDATE JULY 18, 9:19 P.M.: Seattle City Light is reporting that power has been restored to over 3,400 customers in South Burien on Tuesday night, July 18, 2023.

Power was originally knocked out to 3,424 customers in a wide area of Burien, from Three Tree Point to Sunnydale and also in the Riverton/Boulevard Park areas.

City Light said power went out at 7:33 p.m., with over 2,400 restored shortly before 9 p.m.

Caused by a Balloon?

The cause has not yet been determined, and the estimated restoration for the remaining 1,024 will be around 3:44 a.m. Wednesday morning, July 19.

One hint at to the cause of the outage might be this quote from a City Light Tweet:

“Remember to tie down and properly discard balloons.”

Borders of the outage ranged from SW 172nd Street on the west to Sylvester Road on the south, through parts of Gregory Heights all the way down SW/S. 160th to around Des Moines Memorial Drive on the east in Sunnydale; and also to the northeast in the Riverton/Boulevard Park area.
