REMINDER: A rare –4.05 tide will sweep through Burien’s shoreline around the Noon lunch hour this Wednesday, May 28, 2025, revealing a rich intertidal world rarely seen above water.

The extreme low tide – one of the lowest of the year that should happen around 12:20 p.m. – offers a unique opportunity for beachcombing and tidepool exploration at spots like Burien’s Seahurst Park.

The Seattle Aquarium’s Beach Naturalist program will be active at Seahurst, where visitors can learn about sea stars, barnacles, moon snails, and other fascinating beach-dwelling creatures.

NOTE: Beachgoers should tread carefully during low tide walks, as exposed sea life like crabs, anemones, and shellfish are vulnerable to injury from foot traffic and handling.

Seahurst Park Beach Events

Naturalists will be present at Seahurst Beach on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, May 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Low tide: -4.05 at 12:20 p.m.)
  • Saturday, June 28, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Low tide: -2.28 at 1:37 p.m.)
  • Friday, July 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Low tide: -2.63 at 11:52 a.m.)

The Beach Naturalist program connects people of all ages with marine life, fostering a better understanding of the fragile shoreline ecosystem and how to enjoy it responsibly.
