REMINDER: The Highline Heritage Museum will host a Chanukah celebration this Sunday, Dec. 14, beginning at 4:30 p.m., and all are invited.

The free community event will highlight the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.

Activities will include a grand menorah lighting, lively music, and traditional holiday foods such as latkes and doughnuts.

The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple. Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling), the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural, “kh” sound – “kha-nu-kah,” not “tcha-new-kah.”

The museum noted that the celebration is open to all, and is intended to be fun for the whole family.

The event will take place at the Highline Heritage Museum, 819 SW 152nd Street in Burien (map below).
