REMINDER: The city’s annual ‘Día de los Muertos’ celebration will be held this Friday night, Nov. 3, 2023 at the Burien Community Center, from 6–9 p.m.

This FREE event is open to the entire community, and celebrates the tradition of honoring and remembering our ancestors and families.

This event celebrates the “Day of the Dead,” a holiday traditionally celebrated on Nov. 1–2. It is widely observed in Mexico, where it largely developed, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.

It’s worth attending as the art, alters, stories, music, dancing, and food are truly amazing.

New info from organizers:

“This year’s Dia de los Muertos will include CeAtl Tonalli, a traditional Aztec Dance group. They have been dancing in the Northwest since 2004 as well as organizing ceremonies, Danza presentations, historical and cultural workshops, artistic projects, and community engagement activities. Their members travel to Mexico to maintain their connection to the land and traditions and to participate in ceremonies. They also bring teachers from Mexico to Seattle to continue the legacy of sharing teachings and culture. Their goal is to increase understanding of Aztec culture and inspire leadership skills for future generations.

“We believe that we have the power to change ourselves and come together collectively to empower our community for self-determination through our rich history and traditions. We are the dreams of our ancestors….”
