Deputy Mayor Sarah Moore this week announced her bid for re-election to the Burien City Council, Position 5, highlighting her work on affordable housing, community engagement, and public safety during her first term.
Moore, who was first elected in 2021, said she remains committed to ensuring Burien is a safe, affordable, and welcoming city for all residents.
“I’m running for re-election to continue listening to our community, standing up for vulnerable residents, and moving Burien forward,” Moore said in a statement. “I believe in a city government that listens, values transparency, and includes all voices in decision-making.”
During her first term, Moore worked on housing policy and co-sponsored legislation to ensure tenant protections.
She also emphasized the importance of equity and environmental sustainability and has served as Burien’s representative on multiple regional boards, including the Sound Cities Association and the King County Affordable Housing Committee.
Moore, who has lived in Burien for over a decade, currently serves as Deputy Mayor and brings over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and community work.
Reflecting on her leadership on the Burien Airport Committee, Moore said:
“I am especially proud of my time on the Burien Airport Committee because of how this work brings us together. Seattle Tacoma International Airport is an important driver of commerce, and a job provider for our region. At the same time, everyone deserves to live in a community without constant noise pollution, air pollution or water pollution, regardless of their age or income level. That’s what I worked for as an advocate for neighbors and city staff to get what they need, while working alongside our partners at King County and the Port of Seattle.”
Moore’s official campaign kickoff will be held this Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Shark Garden (614 SW 120th Street, Burien, WA 98146). Light refreshments will be provided.

Please no, Burien needs to move forward and away from candidates like her who’ve held back it’s recovery from the failed Progressive causes of the past.
Louis, if you’re against her, I’m for her. Thanks for the endorsement!
