Public Health – Seattle & King County has confirmed a measles case involving a Canadian resident who traveled through King and Snohomish counties between April 30 and May 3 while infectious.
The individual, whose vaccination status is unknown, visited multiple public locations in Renton, Bellevue, Seattle, Everett, and Woodinville, including Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. This case is not linked to prior local measles cases.
Dr. Meagan Kay, Medical Epidemiologist for Public Health – Seattle & King County, emphasized the national significance of the outbreak.
“Globally and in the U.S., we are experiencing a significant measles resurgence. With over 1,000 cases reported so far this year nationally, 2025 is on track to have the highest number of measles cases in the U.S. since the early 1990s,” Kay said. “It’s an important time to check your vaccination status and get vaccinated if you aren’t protected.”
So far in 2025, Washington state has reported five cases of measles among residents.
This latest case marks the third involving non-residents traveling through King County.
