On Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, Burien’s St. Bernadette Parish School (a B-Town Blog Advertiser) welcomed back K-3 students for in-person instruction.
Students and staff alike joyfully greeted one another amidst safety protocols, including face masks, social distancing and increased personal hygiene routines.
Student drop-off procedures now also include temperature checks and wellness screening. Certainly it is an adjustment, but well worth it, as declared by students, staff and parents.
“It is so wonderful to have the majority of our students back on campus for in-person instructions !” said Jeanne Flohr, who serves a multifaceted role leading development, admissions and as school librarian.
The close-knit school community allows for successful implementation of safety recommendations such as appropriate distance between desks and well monitored student interactions.
As we now know, outdoor spaces are great options to provide both social distancing and important air circulation in decreasing the spread of COVID-19 virus. The playgrounds and some covered patios and walkways now serve dual purposes of play and occasionally instruction, as seen in these photos. We particularly enjoy the shot of PS/PK students shaking and shimmy-ing to “I know a Chicken” in Music class:
