Time to upgrade your sprinkler timer? Consider replacing it with a WaterSense timer!
The Saving Water Partnership is offering eligible customers up to a $100 rebate when they replace their old sprinkler timer with an approved WaterSense model. These smart timers are up to 25% more efficient, helping you water only when needed.
What is WaterSense?
WaterSense is a program sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency designed to help customers find water-efficient products. Products with the WaterSense label are certified to use up to 25% less water, perform as well as or better than standard models, and help save water and energy.
How is a WaterSense sprinkler timer better than a standard one?
In the United States, outdoor water use makes up about 30% of total residential water use, and this water is primarily used for landscape irrigation. Experts estimate that as much as 50% of this water is wasted due to overwatering and inefficient irrigation systems.
WaterSense-labeled irrigation timers can help significantly reduce overwatering by applying water only when plants need it. There are two types of WaterSense timers:
- Weather-based timers, which use local weather and landscape conditions to tailor watering schedules
- Soil-moisture-based timers, which measure soil moisture and irrigate only when the soil is dry enough
Replacing a standard clock-based timer with a WaterSense model can save an average home up to 15,000 gallons of water annually.
