The Burien Severe Weather Shelter will now remain open through Monday morning, Jan. 26, based on continued forecasts of freezing temperatures, organizers said.

Organizers say they are in need of volunteers, sugar cereal, feminine hygiene products, warm coats, sweatshirts gloves and some belts.

The National Weather Service issued a Cold Weather Advisory Saturday morning, warning that temps could drop to between 20 and 25 degrees. Forecasters said the coldest temperatures are expected away from the water, and prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia, urging residents to dress warmly, keep pets indoors and check on older neighbors.

The shelter’s schedule may still change depending on weather conditions, and additional updates will be provided as forecasts are reviewed.
