The Burien Severe Weather Shelter will now remain open through Thursday night, Jan. 22, and is expected to close Friday morning, based on continued forecasts of freezing temperatures, shelter organizers said.
As we previously reported, the shelter opened Saturday night, Jan. 17 and was originally scheduled to close Tuesday morning, but extended cold weather projections prompted the updated plan.
The shelter’s schedule may still change depending on weather conditions, and additional updates will be provided as forecasts are reviewed.
The shelter is located at Highline United Methodist Church, 13015 First Ave. S. in Burien (map below), and operates nightly from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- This is an adult, low barrier shelter that allows pets and significant others to stay together.
- A hot meal is provided each night, along with overnight snacks, a self serve breakfast with hot and cold cereal and fruit, and a to go sack lunch each day.
- The shelter has 50 beds, with additional capacity for people who want to come in to warm up, get a hot meal or receive supplies.
- Guests are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
- Community members can view open volunteer shifts and donation needs through an online sign up page at https://signup.com/go/evUVULp.

Just a few minutes ago.. I’m assuming the call letters ODF stands for Overdose/Fire Department. I guess we can look at it this way, at least they were warm and inside when they decided to use illegal drugs

Well hopefully they can seek help for there drug issues . That might be why they are homeless and staying at a church . I am glad they are able to get help from the fire department and not laying in the street flopping around like fish out of water foaming at the eyes . In this day and age of drugs like fentanyl being around some people make the mistake of taking it to get high and bam they end up overdosing .
That shelter has never had any consistent interface or agreement with any drug treatment organizations, it’s low barrier and with that you’re on your own which truly isn’t helping with addiction and why people end up visiting.
Actually ODF may mean Overdose Fatality.
