A new photography exhibit by Enrique Barquet, which blends cityscapes and wilderness is now on display in downtown Burien.
Urban Edges, Wild Horizons, a solo exhibition by local photographer and biologist Barquet opened June 13 at the Merrill Gardens at Burien’s Art Gallery Windows.
The public art installation, part of the 2025 Burien Gallery Program and juried by the Burien Public Arts Commission, features 15 large-format prints viewable 24/7 from the street through Sept. 30.
“This marks a meaningful milestone in my career, and I’m honored to contribute to Burien’s vibrant public art scene,” Barquet said.
The display is his first solo exhibition in the United States.
The exhibit explores the visual and emotional boundaries between the natural world and urban development, drawing from Barquet’s experiences photographing remote landscapes in Mexico and Washington state. Each piece is printed on Chromaluxe aluminum in a semi-gloss finish with a float mount, offering durability and vivid clarity.
With a background in biology and a passion for conservation, Barquet’s work reflects fleeting moments of stillness and grandeur, often focusing on the tension and beauty found at the intersection of wilderness and city life.
The exhibit is located at the corner of 4th Avenue SW and SW 151st Street in Burien. More information and Barquet’s portfolio are available at www.enriquebarquet.com or on Instagram at @enriquebarquet.
