A SeaTac Police sergeant helped put out much of a van fire on I-5 earlier this week while the owner was trying to save his daughters’ belongings from the back, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries were reported.
The sergeant was driving on the freeway when he spotted the van on the shoulder fully engulfed in flames, grabbed a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and stepped in to help, police said. He and the driver could be seen in the video fighting the flames.
“The right place at the right time with the right response,” the agency wrote in a social media post describing the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office also credited Puget Sound Fire and the Washington State Patrol for their response.
The agencies did not identify the sergeant or provide the exact date, location on I-5 or cause of the fire.
“This is what service looks like,” the department wrote.
