Volunteers are sought to come to Seahurst Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, for the annual International Coastal Cleanup, a worldwide event aimed at removing trash and protecting marine wildlife.

The Burien event runs from 10 a.m. to Noon and is organized by the Environmental Science Center, with support from the City of Burien, 4Culture, SR3 Sealife Response, and Poogooder.

Participants will walk along trails, the beach, and park paths to pick up debris.

“All ages are welcome, but youth under 15 must be accompanied by an adult,” the Environmental Science Center noted in its announcement.

Organizers encourage volunteers to register online at envsciencecenter.org to reserve a spot. Gloves, trash bags, and instructions will be provided on site.

The International Coastal Cleanup, first launched by Ocean Conservancy in 1986, has grown into one of the world’s largest volunteer efforts for ocean health. Each year, millions of pounds of trash are removed from beaches and waterways around the globe.

For Burien residents, the local cleanup provides an opportunity to make a visible difference in a popular park while connecting with a worldwide movement.
