The Washington Medical Commission (WMC) announced this week that it has suspended the medical license of Dr. Kristine S. Brecht, a physician practicing in Burien, due to allegations of unprofessional conduct.

As we previously reported, multiple complaints were filed to the state in 2021 against Dr. Brecht, who operated Aesthetic Rejuvenation & Spa at 14212 Ambaum Blvd. SW in Burien.

In August 2021, Dr. Brecht entered into an agreed order with the WMC which – among other terms – restricted her from performing procedures that required sedation.

Separately, in October of 2021, Dr. Brecht admitted to having operated an unlicensed surgical facility and agreed to stop operation of the facility until she was credentialed.

According to the findings of fact, conclusions of law, and final order released by the Department of Health, Dr. Brecht was accused of failing to properly assess and manage the risk of venous thromboembolism in her patients, as well as failing to maintain adequate medical records.

As a result of the order, Dr. Brecht’s medical license has been suspended for five years, and she has been ordered to undergo strict monitoring and oversight of her practice by the WA Medical Commission. The monitoring will include retrospective reviews of her charts and site visits to her practice location at regular intervals.

Dr. Brecht’s practice in Burien has been a topic of concern for some time, with allegations of unlicensed ambulatory surgical facilities and inadequate medical care. In October 2021, Dr. Brecht signed a Stipulated Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law, and Agreed Order to Cease and Desist on behalf of her wholly owned professional limited liability company (PLLC). The order required her to cease operating an ASF until she and/or her PLLC had received an ASF credential.

Dr. Brecht has not yet commented on the suspension of her medical license or the allegations of unprofessional conduct. It is unclear if she plans to appeal the decision or take any further legal action.

The Department of Health’s decision to suspend her medical license has been welcomed by those who have raised concerns about her practice.
