The National Weather Service (NWS) on Sunday morning, Aug. 13, 2023 issued an “Excessive Heat Watch,” warning of a multi-day stretch of “dangerously hot conditions with daytime temperatures in the 80s and 90s and lows in the 60s.

“This will pose Moderate to Major Heat Risk levels and risk of heat-related illness,” NWS said.

Highest temps are predicted to melt us all between Sunday, Aug. 13 through Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, with highs hitting the upper 80s and lower 90s.

“Strong high pressure will build into the area today and into the middle of next week for well above average temperatures and elevated HeatRisk and fire weather concerns,” NWS said in its forecast discussion.

* WHAT…A multi-day stretch of dangerously hot conditions with daytime temperatures in the 80s and 90s and lows in the 60s. This will pose Moderate to Major Heat Risk levels and risk of heat- related illness.

* WHERE…Western Whatcom County, Western Skagit County, Everett and Vicinity, Bellevue and Vicinity, Seattle and Vicinity and Bremerton and Vicinity.

* WHEN…From late tonight through Thursday evening.

* IMPACTS…Major Heat Risk level poses a major risk for heat-related illnesses for anyone without effective cooling or
adequate hydration.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

  • Sunday Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 87. West wind 11 to 13 mph becoming north. 
  • Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 67. North northeast wind around 11 mph. 
  • Monday: Sunny, with a high near 89. North wind 10 to 13 mph. 
  • Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 66. North northeast wind 9 to 14 mph. 
  • Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 90. North wind 8 to 10 mph. 
  • Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 66.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 88.
  • Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 64.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
  • Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76.

NWS also offered the following tips:

“Some additional reminders for hot temperatures include the following:

• “Never leave any living being in a hot vehicle.

• “Stay hydrated and keep vulnerable children and elderly individuals out of the heat.

• “Don’t walk pets on hot surfaces and keep them cool and hydrated.

• “Additionally, there will be heightened fire weather concerns as a result of the increased temperatures and dry conditions.”
