A wrong way, head-on collision involving five vehicles caused by a DUI driver on I-5 near Southcenter Parkway in Tukwila (map below) blocked traffic for five hours and 37 minutes on Monday night, Oct. 9, 2023.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred when a vehicle traveling southbound on the northbound shoulder of I-5 entered lane one and struck a vehicle head-on.

The second vehicle then entered lane two and struck a third vehicle.

The first vehicle then spun and was struck by a fourth vehicle.

The crash caused three injuries, totaled three vehicles and blocked all lanes of northbound I-5. The freeway was re-opened at 1:40 a.m.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle (#1) was charged with DUI and Vehicular Assault. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
