Congrats to Melissa Cook – a second grade teacher in Highline Public Schools – who was selected by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions for the 2018 Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship.

Along with 40 other educators from across the United States and Canada, Ms. Cook was selected for this fellowship in recognition of her commitment to geographic education.

As a Grosvenor Fellow, she will be a collaborating with National Geographic on their work in education and will be joining a team of National Geographic explorers and naturalists on a Lindblad Expedition to the High Arctic in May-June 2018.

National Geographic is training and preparing Ms. Cook to help her bring the Arctic expedition back to her students in a way that is meaningful, engaging, and inspiring. Her second graders feel personally connected to the Arctic as a result of this fellowship, and are eager to learn all that they can about the region. Ms. Cook created a Donors Choose project to obtain books about the Arctic, so that she can channel her students’ excitement into a shared and meaningful learning experience.

The project has now been fully funded, but you can support local students in other exciting learning opportunities by donating to or learning more about Donors Choose here.
