Marrissa Boots, 30, has been charged with Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office after allegedly trying to abduct a 6-year-old boy in Burien on May 29, 2024.

According to first appearance charging documents, Boots is alleged to have followed the child and his mother through downtown Burien before attempting to seize the boy multiple times.

This included following the mother and the child victim outside while they were walking, multiple times in and out of a store, and to a car where the defendant opened the car door several times and attempted to take the child out of the car.

The incident began when the woman and her son noticed Boots following them along SW 152nd Street in Downtown Burien. Despite the mother’s attempts to evade Boots, the suspect persisted, repeatedly claiming that the child was her son. The mother sought refuge in Centro Neighborhood Kitchen, where employees intervened to protect her and the child.

Boots allegedly pursued them into the restaurant, making further attempts to grab the child. She followed them outside, where she was physically restrained by bystanders as she tried to enter the vehicle in which the woman and her son had taken shelter.

Boots was eventually detained by police and taken into custody.

Boots is currently held on $100,000 bail. The prosecution is pressing for the bail amount to remain unchanged, citing the severity of the charges and the potential danger to the community.
