A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon May 6, 2025 after allegedly attempting to take a baby from a car near a playground at Lake Burien School Memorial Park (map below).

Police said the incident occurred at the park at around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Deputies with the Burien Police Department and King County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a disturbance involving a man who had been approaching children at the park.

Officials said the suspect attempted to remove a baby from a parked vehicle. The child was not harmed during the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked into jail with recommended charges of attempted kidnapping in the second degree.

Deputies noted that mental health issues may have been a factor in the incident.

As of press time, it is unclear whether formal charges have yet been filed by the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
