The Highline Heritage Museum is highlighting a new docuseries that explores the history and lived experiences of immigrant and refugee communities in White Center, according to information provided by the museum.
“Rooted in White Center” – which will be screened at the museum from 5–6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 – examines the neighborhood’s evolution from its mid 20th century roots to the present through reflections from community leaders and nine personal narratives from refugee and immigrant business owners.
The series focuses on the experiences of BIPOC, immigrant and refugee owned businesses navigating challenges such as displacement, economic pressures and gentrification in the unincorporated King County community.
According to the Highline Heritage Museum, the project documents stories of resilience and creativity while preserving community history and identity.
The docuseries also is intended to serve as both a historical record and a call to action for more equitable investment that supports White Center’s cultural and economic foundations.
The project was produced by the White Center Community Development Association as part of the White Center Innovation Project, the museum said.
