The Burien Arts Association is featuring the works of Allina Hakim in the February exhibit at the Highline Heritage Museum, located at 819 SW 152nd Street, and will be holding an Artist’s Reception this Friday night.

The opening reception is during the Art Walk this Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, from 6-7 p.m. Please visit the exhibit during that hour as the room hosts a speaker at 7 p.m.

The Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday, from Noon-5 p.m.

“I like to identify myself as a patternist,” Allina said. “Both sides of my family have artistic talent, including my aunt who lives in Paris. I remember seeing her house with every inch of the walls covered with her paintings; they were so remarkable they looked like photographs. I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to be like her one day.’”

“I started art classes in high school at the age of fifteen and carried on with doodles and sketches on classroom papers. Teachers didn’t think I was listening, but it actually helped me focus. One teacher recognized my sketches and told me to save them so I could document my progress. After high school, I went on to college and studied Interior Design where my art really blossomed…”

“I enjoy freeing my mind from what something is supposed to be, and allowing the patterns to develop their own forms. I don’t think about what I’m painting I just do it and let my hands do all the thinking.”

Allina has displayed her work at Seattle Center three times. She has also shown at The Stonehouse Cafe, Club Sur, and at the Love City Love exhibition March 2019, all in Seattle.

She holds a BA of Applied Art and Interior Design from Bellevue College. She also studied graphic design at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA.

Allina currently works as a Marketing Coordinator at CKC Structural Engineers, Bellevue.

All works on display at the Highline Heritage Museum are for sale. Please email [email protected] for information on purchasing.
