After closing down their popular discount store in January, 2020, Big Lots will be re-opening in a new Burien location in February of 2021, the company confirmed to The B-Town Blog this week.

    • The previous location at 125 SW 148th Street now is home to the Hong Kong Market, and the new Big Lots will be located at 14907 4th Ave SW, just south of LA Fitness in the Burien Town Plaza, in a space that was previously a Staples store (map below).
    • That property is owned by Merlone Geier Partners, was built in 1965, and has 24,240 square feet.
    • A film production studio called Zoo Break Productions formerly occupied the south end of this space.

On Tuesday afternoon, workers could be seen inside preparing the stripped interior for painting, shelving and stocking.

Big Lots is a popular discount chain that sells housewares, grocery items, furniture, holiday items and more. They operate more than 1,400 stores in 47 states.

According to Wikipedia:

“The Big Lots chain traces its history back to 1967 when Consolidated Stores Corporation was formed in Ohio by Sol Shenk. In 1982, Consolidated Stores Corp. opened its first closeout store, called Odd Lots, in Columbus, Ohio. In 1997, Big Lots Inc. bought out ‘MacFrugals’ (Pic ‘N’ Save) stores for $995 million in stock, eventually converting those to the Big Lots brand.”

The projected opening date for the new store is Feb. 25, 2021.
