The days are finally, slowly, getting longer, but let’s face it – they’re still pretty short, and still pretty dark, but Marina Mercantile has just the ticket to lift your post-Holiday spirits.

Let’s start with their five-star-reviewed Afternoon Tea, a proper British tea service with finger sandwiches, homemade scones, clotted cream and jam, and sweet treats. They also have unique, themed and holiday menus, and can accommodate certain dietary restrictions.

Maybe you’re looking for something more interactive – look no further, as January and February bring several sure-to-be-fun classes:

  • Friday, Jan. 31: Ashley from Batter’s Bakery will guide us through decorating an adorable set of Valentine’s-themed sugar cookies.
  • Friday, Feb. 7: Watercolors and Wine with Jenna will be back!

Classes not your style? Looking for something a little classier? The Mercantile happens to be Des Moines’ only source of craft cocktails and they are ready to warm up your winter, with everything from the classics to modern, non-alcohol cocktails made with the new generation of amazing NA spirits. Whether something from the creative cocktail list, or a sip of warming single malt or cognac…they have you covered.

You can really class it up at Jazz night on Saturday, Jan. 25 when Nick Jarmon returns to the Merc with his fantastic guitar and classic crooner style voice.

Finally – every Thursday brings a tasting event, and the first two in January were a dive into the world of non-alcoholic wines and beers – both of which have come a looooong ways.  The last thing in January is a yummy Valentine’s cookie class. February has some special events including a very limited romantic dinner at Zenith Holland Nursery and Galentine’s/Valentines afternoon teas. Every one of these events are sure to warm your heart!
