The Burien Severe Weather Shelter will reopen today – Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 – in response to anticipated continued cold weather conditions.

The National Weather Service is predicting lows around 30 degrees in the region over the next several nights.

The shelter – hosted at Highline United Methodist Church (13015 1st Ave South; map below) – is expected to remain open through Saturday night, closing Sunday morning unless further updates are issued.

The shelter, which provides a warm and safe space for those in need during extreme weather, relies heavily on community volunteers and donors.

Organizers have called for additional help, noting that many volunteer slots remain available.

“Our biggest need is volunteers,” shelter representatives said, directing those interested to sign up at this link.

The shelter’s reopening comes as temperatures are forecast to dip, emphasizing the ongoing need for support in the community.

“Thank you for all of your support.”
