Washington’s Lottery is urging players in Burien to check their tickets after one local retailer sold 20 winning Match 4 tickets in the May 13 drawing, with each ticket worth $10,000.
Washington’s Lottery said there were 22 top prize winning Match 4 tickets statewide in the May 13 drawing, with 20 of those sold at Jay’s Mini Mart in Burien, totaling $200,000 in prizes from a single store in one night.
While a single Match 4 ticket has odds of 1 in 10,600 of winning the game’s $10,000 prize, the unusual part of this occurrence is that 20 winning tickets were sold at the same Burien store. That suggests that multiple tickets may have been purchased using the same winning number combination.
If all 20 tickets had been separate random picks, the odds of all 20 winning independently would have been astronomically small, roughly 1 in 3.37 octodecillion, or 1 in 3.37 times 10 to the 80th power.
Two additional $10,000 Match 4 prizes also were won in the same drawing, according to Washington’s Lottery. Those tickets were sold in Lakewood and Tacoma.
