Burien’s first mayor, Arun Jhaveri, was recently voted into the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Hall of Fame. The award was presented in Washington, D.C. at the annual World Energy Engineering Congress. “I am quite humbled and honored for being selected to receive this award,” Jhaveri said. This prestigious annual award represents the recognition and support of the peers, members, and Energy Management Professionals of the AEE, a world leader in energy, environment, climate change, renewables, and clean/green technologies, representing more than 17,000 members and delegates in 25 countries, working for government, industry, academia, non-profits, and the community at large. Jhaveri, who served five years as mayor of Burien the 1990’s, remains active in local and state policy making. He has recently offered suggestions to the city regarding sustainable economic development and the 2015/16 biennium budget. In addition, he served recently on Governor Jay Inslee’s task force on the study of the use of drones in Washington state.
