Burien’s Environmental Science Center is celebrating the arrival of spring with an exciting lineup of free new programs.

“This spring we are offering four BRAND NEW programs for everyone in our community to join us to celebrate nature.”

Here’s what they’ve got going on:

Salmon Creek Park Restoration Day
Saturday, April 22: 12 – 4 p.m.

Join ESC, Green Burien Partnership, New Start High School, DirtCorps, and EarthCorps at Salmon Creek Park restoration work, free food, and more to celebrate Earth Day!

Students from New Start High School will be leading restoration efforts at the park and need your help.


    Sustainability Fair
    Sunday, April 23: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

    Join ESC at the Renton Neighborhoods BBQ & Sustainability Fair at Teasdale Park.

    Play with our hands-on science stations, learn about container gardening, and more all while enjoying a free BBQ! 

    ESC hands-on science stations are generously funded by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division.

    Arbor Day Celebration
    Saturday, April 29: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

    Join ESC at Marvista Park with the City of Normandy Park for their annual Arbor Day festival.

    Hands-on science, free tree giveaways, and more await you!

    Toddler Story Time
    Friday, April 28: 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
    Friday, May 26: 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.

    Join ESC at the Renton Library for story time and hands-on science!

    Nature explorers ages 2-5 will enjoy themed stories, singing, dancing, and hands-on science projects.

    REQUIRED REGISTRATION – opening soon!

    Cedar River Bird Walk
    Monday, May 1: 10 – 11:30 a.m.

    Ages 50+. Join ESC and the Renton Senior Center to take a guided walk along the Cedar River Trail while learning about the birds and plants around you. We will share identification tips and species adaptations.

    This program is generously funded by the King County Healthy Parks Grant.

    REGISTRATION REQUIRED – opens April 10, 2023.
