The City of Burien is inviting artists and artist teams to submit proposals for a new mural installation at the Burien Community Center.
According to the city’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department, the project will feature an original artwork printed as a vinyl wall wrap inside the Burien Community Center (map below).

City officials said the concept should portray the community center as a gathering place where people of all ages and backgrounds connect, celebrate and participate in programs that support creativity, wellness and community life.
The artwork is expected to reflect the spirit of Burien by celebrating diversity, encouraging inclusion and highlighting recreation, cultural expression and shared community experiences.
The commission for the project is $1,500. The amount covers the artist fee, final print ready design files, coordination with city staff and contractors, as well as conceptual development, site visits and any required revisions.
Finalists will be selected by a jury panel that includes city staff, members of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Advisory Board and members of the community.
The mural project is funded through the Burien Art in Public Place Fund.
Artists interested in applying can submit qualifications and concept proposals through the city’s online application form.
Applications are due by Tuesday, April 7.
