Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 12) two checks – for $8,160 each – were presented to both the Highline Area and White Center Food Banks from Organizers from the “Empty Bowls” fundraiser, held Jan. 31 at the Burien Community Center. This was the 9th annual event, and was sponsored by Burien Parks as well as Discover Burien. In addition to presenting the checks, the annual Empty Bowls “Best Soup” award was given to Elliott Bay Brewhouse Chef David Bunniel and Francisco Herreia. This year’s fundraiser had record breaking attendance – 1,185 people – and it raised nearly $17,000!
