City of Burien's 'Slurry Seal' pilot paving program will close roads July 27-30

The City of Burien announced on Tuesday (July 14) that its Slurry Seal pilot paving program will require four single-day closures on numerous roads (maps below), from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27–30. This program is intended “to lengthen the life of … roads at a fraction of the cost of complete repaving,” the city said. The project will require single-day road closures  on July 27, 28, 29, and 30, along the following roads highlighted on the maps below: [caption id="attachment_88217" align="aligncenter" width="490"] The Slurry Seal program will close roads in the NE part of Burien.[/caption] “Because slurry seals need to be applied during warm, sunny weather to cure properly, the project schedule may need to be adjusted if inclement weather occurs,” the city added. Residents and businesses will be notified of any such changes. As slurry seal is laid, the road must be cleared of debris, cars, recreational vehicles, and other personal items. In addition, the affected streets will close to all car, bike, foot, and pet traffic while the seal cures. Vehicles left on the street will be towed at the owner’s expense. Residents and businesses affected by the project will be notified via door hangers two to three days before the seal will be laid. Visit www.burienwa.gov/slurryseal for updates. Slurry seal is a mixture of fine aggregate and emulsified asphalt applied to residential roads. Considered to be preventive maintenance, slurry seal extends the life of existing asphalt by sealing it from the harmful effects of water penetration and sun.
