ECOThrive Housing is seeking donations and funding partners to close a financing gap for a planned village of 27 permanently affordable, community-owned homes in Burien’s Boulevard Park neighborhood, citing rising construction costs.
“This is prevention, not crisis response,” organizers said. “Without intervention, many working households are one rent increase or one life disruption away from instability. EcoTHRIVE’s model catches people before that happens — through stable, dignified, permanently affordable ownership.”
Here’s more from ECOThrive:
✔️ What’s already in place
- Land secured (1.8 acres in Burien)
- Landuse approvals complete
- A values aligned project team (architects, engineers, leaders, partners)
- A community led development plan
- Lenders ready to fund construction
- A resale model that keeps homes affordable forever, not just for the first buyer
⚠️ Why we’re reaching out now
Recent cost estimates reflect continued increases in construction costs across the region, creating additional financial challenges for the project. Securing the remaining funding as soon as possible will help us manage costs and keep the project moving forward.
We are asking our community — and those who care about affordable homeownership, working residents and Burien’s future — to help us close this gap.
💛 Why this matters for Burien and our surrounding communities
EcoTHRIVE Housing is building homes for people who live, work, and contribute here. People who want a stake in the community instead of facing escalating rents.
This is not a homelessness intervention. This is a stability intervention — a way to keep working residents and families rooted in Burien for generations.
