Residents in Burien and Normandy Park will be able to recycle a wide range of household items at the 2026 Fall Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien (map below).
Organizers said only listed items will be accepted, with no exceptions.
Some items are free to recycle, while others require cash payment.
Free To Recycle:
- Household batteries: AAAA, AAA, AA, A, C, D cell alkaline batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries
- Lead acid batteries: car, truck, marine and motorcycle
- Electronics and TV sets: cellphones, DVD players, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, TVs of all sizes, scanners, tablets, VCRs, mice
- Printers and copiers, $5 each
- Appliances and scrap metal: household appliances, microwave ovens, metal lawn chairs, engines, gas lawn mowers, drained oil and gasoline, metal lawn chairs, barbecues, steel, aluminum, brass, copper and other metals
- Items with non-Freon metals, $5 cash only
- Confidential paper shredding: staples OK, no binder clips, limit three file size boxes or seven paper grocery bags per vehicle
Charge To Recycle:
- CFC appliances: refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, $35 each
- Mattresses and box springs: clean and dry, any size, $30 each
- Porcelain tubs, toilets and sinks: seats, hardware and base wax rings removed, $25 each
- Propane tanks: empty 5 gallon tanks, $10 each; 1 gallon tanks, $2 each
- Styrofoam blocks and packing peanuts: clean, dry white expanded polystyrene blocks and packing peanuts of any color
- Passenger and truck tires: six passenger tires per vehicle, $6 each passenger tire on rim, $15 each large truck tire, $30 each large truck tire on rim
Confidential paper shredding will also be available for staples, rubber clips and binder clips, with a limit of three file size boxes or seven paper grocery bags per vehicle.
Safety guidelines ask participants to remain in their vehicles except when unloading, pack items so they are quick to remove and avoid attending if they are unwell.
