Former Normandy Park Mayor Susan West is featured in this month’s Highline Public Schools’ #HighlineAlum social media campaign.
West is a 1985 graduate of Mount Rainier High School.
West served on Normandy Park’s City Council before becoming Mayor in 2014. Her term ended this year in January. Before working in the public sector, West was a successful television news reporter and anchor at several stations including Northwest Cable News, KOMO-TV and Q13. West currently works for King County as a Public Information Officer.
West was born and raised in Highline. She attended Marvista Elementary School, Pacific Middle School and Mount Rainier High School.
“All those schools and teachers gave me tools to be able to follow my dreams and pursue my careers. They taught me how to be a leader and a pro-active community member. All of that helped me pursue and succeed in my careers,” said West. “I just want to thank the Highline School District and all the teachers for everything that you taught me.”

Highline boasts a long list of well-known and accomplished alumni and dozens of grads you haven’t yet heard of who are making their mark on the world.
Each month, we are featuring successful, high-profile alum and up-and-coming alum on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. The features include a short video clip of the alumnus. The community is invited to follow along by using the hashtag #HighlineAlum.
Earlier this month, we featured Mount Rainier alumnus and Highline Schools Foundation Board of Trustees Member Erin Ambrozic.
The #HighlineAlum campaign aims to inspire our students to dream big, graduate high school, and go on to accomplish great things.
If you know an outstanding Highline Alum, please nominate them to be featured in a future profile. Email their name and contact information to communication@highlineschools.org.
Susan West rocks. She is an inspiration to everyone who works with her. She didn’t even mention her key leadership of the Normandy Park Economic Development Committee (a boring name for a very fun group) and the events she has created and developed. We are all so lucky to have her!
