The City of Burien will be distributing 16,000 FREE cloth face coverings (masks) to residents to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Burien, starting this Thursday, July 16, 2020.

The masks are from a supply of 25 million masks distributed by King County government to cities across the county.

Families can pick up two free masks per family member at the following locations and times. Call (206) 241-4647 if you have questions:

WHERE: Burien City Hall, 400 SW 152^nd Street, Burien – north side of the building (map below).

WHEN:

- - Thursday, July 16, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
  - Thursday, July 23, 4–6 p.m.
  - Thursday, July 30, 1–3 p.m.
  - Thursday, August 6, 4–6 p.m.

The City is also distributing masks to a number of local organizations that serve a wide diversity of residents including: people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, multicultural families, and immigrant and refugee families.

According to public health experts, cloth face coverings protect other people from getting COVID-19 when we talk, cough, or sneeze. Between 20–40 percent of people with COVID-19 don’t show any symptoms but can still spread the virus to others. Recent research suggests wearing a face covering can significantly reduce the incidence of COVID-19. Until a vaccine or cure is developed, face coverings are the best defense.

“The rate of COVID-19 infection in Burien remains one of the highest in King County,” said Brian J. Wilson, Burien City Manager. “This is concerning, and we need everyone to take seriously the advice of our public health leaders to prevent the spread of the virus. We want to thank King County for providing these masks for our community members, and to help us keep Burien community members safe and healthy, and keep our economy open.”
