It’s Girl Scout cookie season once again, and Mary’s Place Troop #40103 is offering several opportunities for you to grab a few boxes of your favorites.

This year, the troop aims to sell 2,000 boxes to earn enough money for a fun carnival day at the Burien shelter.

The troop has also decided to dedicate a portion of what they raise to help their refugee and asylum-seeking neighbors.

The troop is also holding several drive-thru sales days at the Burien shelter in March (see dates below).

“The Mary’s Place troop loves this time of year when they’re working together to reach their goal, meeting customers with enthusiasm and smiles when we do drive-thru events, and celebrating every box they sell,” said Tanita Horton, one of the troop’s leaders and Vice President of Women & Family Shelters at Mary’s Place.

Starting in 2016, Troop #40103 is the first troop in Washington to be based at a shelter, offering girls the opportunity to learn various skills and build valuable friendships. While their experience is a bit different from youth who are housed, the girls of Troop #40103 and their leaders have created a community where routine, responsibility, skill-building, and friendships bring comfort during what can be a challenging time for their families.

“Many of our girls have changed schools several times or experienced the loss of close friendships due to homelessness. Girl Scouts and the activities it offers provide stability and consistency for them while they’re with us at Mary’s Place,” Tanita said.

Come out and support members of Troop #40103 and get your cookie fix! The girls will hold drive-thru sales at the Burien shelter (12845 Ambaum Blvd S. in Burien; map below) on the following dates:
