Congrats to the Highline High School girls varsity soccer team, who made it to the state tournament for the first time in seven years!
The Pirates won two ‘loser out’ matches to clinch the 4th place district seed.
On Thursday, November 6 the Pirates faced a tough port Angeles Roughriders team in the first round of the district tournament. The Pirates battled back twice from a one goal deficit netting two goals in the final seven minutes of the match. Senior captain Jackie Madsen scored the go ahead goal and the Pirates withstood a five-minute barrage by Port Angeles to secure the victory.
Coach Jeb Binns said his “Pirates never gave up and rallied well. They played hard for each other.”
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the Pirates defeated the Franklin Pierce Cardinals score of 3 to 2 on penalty kicks. The score was knotted 2-2 after 80 minutes of regulation play and two five minutes sudden-death overtime periods. Sophomore goalkeeper Makenna Hadaler made three saves and senior Flor Aquino finally sealed the victory on the ninth penalty kick to win the match.
The Pirates move on to the state tournament with a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday in Ridgefield Washington.]]>
