Highline School Board Member Tyrone Curry Sr. is retiring from the school board this year, and a retirement celebration is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7 – 9 p.m.
This celebration will take place after Curry’s final school board meeting at the district’s main offices in Burien (map below).
Curry joined the board in 2011. Before his election he was a long-time employee of Highline Public Schools, first hired in 1976 as maintenance staff, then becoming head custodian for Mount View Elementary for 13 years, and finally as head custodian at Evergreen High School from 1991 until his election.
Tyrone has also been a coach to many Highline athletic teams for more than three decades. He coached track at Tyee High School from 1978 through 1990. From 1991 to 2011, he spent time as a coach of various teams at Evergreen High School, including track, cross country, girls’ basketball and football.
“We are grateful for his service to our students, schools, families and community,” the board said in a statement. “Help us celebrate Tyrone and all that he has done for us at a farewell reception on November 20, following the school board meeting.”
